Sing
With The Champs
2006
by Phil Hansen - SWTC coordinator/ Bass Mid
States Four
This year turned out great. We sold out and had
outstanding support from the Indianapolis Barbershoppers. This year
we used a camera with a photo printer instead of Polaroid. This gave
the quartets the opportunity to sign the photo and it gave the whole
process a touch of class.
We had the Acoustix, Suntones, Gotcha!, Happiness Emporium, Four
Voices, Realtime, Fred and Power Play. Our MC’s this year were
Jerry Fairchild, Ray Henders, Jim Bagby, Gary Parker and Don Bagley.
Others that helped out were Ron Knickerbocker, Dave Kindinger, Butch
Koth, Howard Rinkel, Bill Thornton who did a great job with the
camera and Rick Anderson.
Sorry
if I forgot someone as it got very busy at singing time. The crowd
was enthused and numbered over 300 most of the session. Thanks to
all who supported the program and look forward to next year in
Denver
.

The
Best $40 I've Ever Spent!

I'd like to give a public thank you and
shout-out to Gotcha! for participating in the "Sing With The
Champs" program on Saturday morning. I got a chance to sing
"Wait 'Til The Sun Shines, Nellie!" with them, and it was
an awesome and amazing experience!
They were incredibly nice and supportive to me, before, during &
after the song - real and true gentlemen. (This is consistent with
everything I've seen - including singing a polecat with them at last
year's Director's College.)
I was nervous and anxious before and during the performance, and
unbelievably exhilarated afterwards. That was the most fun three
minutes I had at the entire convention!
Sing With the Champs is a GREAT fundraiser for the Harmony
Foundation, and I appreciate the opportunity that I had this year
with Gotcha! (and two years ago, my wife sang with FRED; and I sang
with FRED three years ago.) If you haven't had a chance, at next
year's International, take part in this program.
Over the last four years, great quartets like Gotcha!,
The Suntones, Acoustix, FRED (who gave us the highlight of our
honeymoon in Louisville in '04), Power Play, Realtime, Four Voices
& Happiness Emporium have provided their services in this neat
barbershop karaoke.
It's a wonderful $40, even if you "just" go up and sing a
polecat - like my lead, Bob, did with Realtime.
Thanks, Gotcha! guys. I really, really appreciate it.
